Rationale
Low potency inhibitor of CYP3A4, probably only poorly interfering with the CYP system. Mechanism based inhibition less likely. Conflicting references.
Chemical description
(To be edited, initial data ST OCT 04) Macrolide antibiotic used (500-250 mg /d) in urogenital infections caused by Clamydia and in gonococcal genital infections. Only small amounts metabolized in the liver by demethylation. Low potency inhibitor of CYP3A4. South African list: use with extreme caution only. French list: can be used.
