Rationale
Low potency inhibitor of CYP3A4, probably only poorly interfering with the CYP system. Mechanism based inhibition less likely. Conflicting references.
Chemical description
Macrolide antibiotic used (500-250 mg /d) in urogenital infections caused by Clamydia and in gonococcal genital infections. Only small amounts metabolized in the liver by demethylation. Low potency inhibitor of CYP3A4. South African list: use with extreme caution only. French list: can be used.
