J01MA01 - Ofloxacin
Propably not porphyrinogenic
PNP

Rationale
Only limited metabolism. Probably insignificant CYP-interaction. Conflicting references
Chemical description
(To be edited, initial data ST OCT 04) Quinolone antibiotic, 65-80 % eliminated in unchanged form by glomerular filtration and tubular excretion over 24-48 hours. Less than 5% is eliminated in urine as metabolites. Slight CYP1A2 inhibition in vivo. To be observed: May interfere with screening tests for porphyrins in urine due to overlaping fluorescence emission at 600 nm. South African list: use with extreme caution only. French list: use. Metabolic basis..ref 383: safe. See also: Schoenfelt and Mamet. Interference of ofloxacin with determination of urinary porphyrins. Clin Chem 1994, 40; 417-19 (PMID 8131278)
