Porphyrinogenic in animal model. Several references consider (phenothiazines in general) to be safe. In frequent clinical use without ill effects (Sweden)
Chemical description
(To be edited, initial data ST OCT 04) Antiemetic and sedative low-dose phentiazine derivative. High first passage metabolism. Probably metabolized by CYP 2D6. No data pointing to CYP-induction. Moore MR, Hift RJ: Drugs in the acute porphyrias. Cell Mol Biol 43:89, 1997: safe Martindale: Shown to be porphyrinogenic in animals. Frequently used (Sweden) during acute porphyric crises without adverse effects.
