Rationale
The proxetil ester gives rise to cefpodoxime, which is in greater parts excreted in unchanged form. No data pointing to CYP-interaction. Conflicting references.
Chemical description
Perorally administered betalactamase stable cephalosporin administered as proxetil ester, used (up to 200mg x 2) in acute sinusitis, acute otitis media and pharyngotonsillitis where penicillins are ineffective. Hydrolyzed in the intestine to cefpodoxim which is absorbed systematically. Around 80% is excreted in unchanged form in urine. No data pointing to CYP induction.
