Chemical description
Antimycotic substance for systemic use in candidemia and other severe generalized fungal infections. Obtained from from Streptomyces nodosus. Stored in the body for long periods, being slowly excreted in unchanged form in urine. Amphotericin B has been shown to decrease hepatic CYP content and function in rat studies. In contrast liposomal preparations of the substance do not give rise to this effect.
