Contact laxative. Enterotablets 5-10 mg/d or suppositories 10 mg/d. Diphenyl pyridine derivative hydrolyzed in the intestine to desaetylbisacodyl, which is absorbed and excreted in urine and bile as glucuronide. A diphenol is formed in colon which stimulates motility. Only minute amounts reach the systemic circulation.
