Side effects
Common adverse reactions of the vaccine that can be confused with an acute porphyric attack are nausea, vomiting, diarrhea and abdominal pain. These side effects may potentially be porphyrinogenic if leading to a decrease in carbohydrate intake.
Rationale
Based on the pharmacokinetics of the pertussis combination vaccine there are no conceivable porphyrinogenic effects.
Chemical description
Antigens from Bordetella Pertussis and diphtheria and tetanus toxoids.
Therapeutic characteristics
The pertussis combination vaccine is indicated for booster vaccination against diphtheria, tetanus and pertussis in individuals from age four years and older. It is administered as a single dose by deep intramuscular injection
Metabolism and pharmacokinetics
The pertussis combination vaccine is not metabolized by the cytochrome P450 system.
