ibuprofen: Propionic acid derivative metabolised mainly by CYP2C9. No clinical data pointing to CYP-inducing effects. Did not induce ALAS1 in rat.
codeine: Opioid, substrate for CYPs 2D6 and 3A4/3A7 (minor reactions). No clinical data pointing to CYP-inducing effects. Several references consider it safe.
Chemical description
Tablets 200-800 mg/d. Ibuprofen: Analgetic and antiflogistic propionic acid derivative, effective through its cyclooxygenase inhibiting effect. Hydroxylated by CYP2C9 (major enzyme) and 2C8. Inhibitor of CYP2C9. Excreted as two metabolites. No data pointing to CYP-induction.
Codeine: Opoid phenantrene derivative with analgesic and antitussive properties, metabolized by CYP2D6 and to a minor extent by 3A4 and 3A7.
