Rationale
Potent inhibitor of CYP3A4; MI-complex formation? Conflicting references. Several Swedish observations of non-porphyrinogenicity. Probably insignificant hepatic load in local dental use.
Chemical description
(To be edited, initial data ST OCT 04) Tetracycline broad spectrum antibiotic with alkylamino group used in local treatment of tooth-pocket infections. Mainly unmetabolized but CYPs appear to be involved to some extent since CYP-inducing drugs result in an increase in its metabolism. Inhibitor of CYP 3A4 (MI-complex?).The concentration of the antibiotic in blood does not exceed 1 ug/ml.
